The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Strattoid Branch, report as follows : On Tuesday, .29tlr September, we held our weekly dairy heifer sale in our Stratford yards. Only a small yarding of 36 head cams forward, but prices were well maintained for heifers close to profit and showing quality. Wo report prices as follows:—3 year olds £8 to £6 5s for backward sorts; 2 year" olds £6 to £5 for backward sorts, sraa.ll 2! year olds (low conditioned) £5 to £4 os, heifers with calf at foot 3,5 10's.We- report private sales as follows : —2 lines of good framed ewes and Southdown lambs 23 s 6d, ompty ewes' lls\9d to I2s, forward ewes 16s to 19s, good hoggets 16s 6d, medium 15s 6d, small ,12s- Shorthorn year'hg heifers 45s to 34s 6d, yearling steers (small) j»2s 6d to 54s 6d, good 60s fco 60s, store cows £4 5s to £5 ss, sound dairy bulls. Shorthorn'£6, Jersey £4 Jersey 40s, 2 year old Shorthojn empty heifers 67s 6d to 72s 6d. There is a good demand, for all classes of stock.
