SCENES AT ALDERSHOT. REGIMENTS TURNED OUT "WHILE YOU WAIT." ENTHUSIASM OF ALL CLASSES. Times and Sydney Sun Servioeb. (Received 8.0 a.m.) London, October 1. Aldershot is the centre of a vast series of camps. Over 120,000 troops are in the vicinity, and are drilling for miles in the open spaces and along the roads. The canvas town stretches far out in the fields over the whole valley. The Government workshop is turning out new regiments "while you wait." The willingness to learn and the enthusiasm of all classes is magnificent. The townsfolk are bewildered at the business boom. The thoroughfares at nightfall suggest scenes at Klondyke and Kalgoorlie in gold-rush times. Lord Kitchener's new army is taking shape with equal celerity in other parts of the United Kingdom.
THE LORD MAYOR'S SHOW TO BE ABANDONED. Times and Sydney Sun Seevioes. (Received 8.0 a.m.) London, October 1. On account of the effects of the war, the Lord Mayor's Show has been abandoned. CONTRABAND GOODS. BLOCKADE OF GERMAN PORTS AND COMMERCIAL EXTINCTION. United Press Association. (Received 9.15 a.m.) London, October 1.
Friendly conversations are proceeding between Sir Edward Grey and the American Ambassadors concerning Britain's action in preventing Germany receiving contraband and conditional contradband from neutral countries through neutral ports, thus emphasising the virtual blockade of German ports and the extinction of German commerce.
