“BOBS 82nd BIRTHDAY.
FELICITATIONS FROM NEW ZEALAND.

In the' Legislative Council this afternoon, Hon. Bell moved—“ That the Legilsative Council of New Zealand, on the occasion of the 82nd anniversary of the birth of Karl Roberts, Col-onel-in-Chief of the Forces of his Majesty’s Possessions Beyond the Seas, desires to recognise the splendid service which his Lordship has rendered to the Empire in the past, and to express its hope that he may be spared for many years to come to command the New Zealand soldiers, who are proud to have the privilege of serving under him.” Continuing, Hou. Bell said that he had tried to express in words what the country felt. AH Englishmen knew and .valued Lord Roberts’ services. Hon. Baillie, who had served under Lord Roberts’ father, seconded the motion, expressing the honor the Council felt at passing the motion. Since 1857 Lord Roberts’ name had been a household word throughout the Empire. He pointed out that Lord Roberts had foreshadowed what took place in August. ’ The resolution was carried unanimously,. and his Excellency is to be requested to cable the message to Lord Roberts. A similar resolution was passed in tile House of Representatives. 1
