A Berlin wireless on Saturday from the main headquarters reports with regard to operations in the western theatre: The resumption of operations led to new engagements on [our extreme right wing without decisive result. Except for a few partial advances on both sides nothing happened. In the centre a Bavarian regiment commanded by General von der tann hoisted the German flag at the outpost fortress Campdesroraains, near St. Michiel. We crossed the Meuse at this spot. There are
no other alterations in the east and west.
RA'ESINCT THE WAR LOAN.
New York, September 2G. German despatches show that the success of the war loan was due to the Government, attaching 25 per cent, of all bank balances and thus forcing depositors to subscribe. German merchants were alio forced to liquidate debts by investment in the war loan, and creditors were notified that if they did not agree, their firm’s must dis--1 continue business. They even notified creditors in Switzerland that money | owing to them had been invested in the war loan.

Fifty members of the German ( etvtre Party in. the Reichstag sent to the cardinals an ardent plea for the Germans’ cause, declaring that Germany, for 40 years the apostle of peace in Europe, had been compelled to go to war to defend her territory and aid Austria. SPOTS PREPARED YEARS AOO, Paris, September 20. A refugee from Maubeuge states that the German siege guns wore placed on platforms of cement, bunt in carefully-selected spots by prvate individuals years ago as foundations for factories which were never comnleted.
