W. M. BAYLY AND GO’S. REPORT We held our first sale of wool, skins and hides since the outbreak of war on Tuesday last. There was a good attendance of buyers and" competition was very keen, especially for hides and calfskins. Sheepskins showed a decided drop of Ifd to 2Jd per lb. and wool and tallow was practically unsaleable. Butchers’ hides declined to fd, but farmers’ hides sold remarkably well. Calfskins were in good demand and realised high prices. We quote : Crutchings in bales 3£d per lb, crutch, ings in bags 2d to 4d per lb. Sheepskins. Butchers’ f-wools (average 121bs) 6Jd per lb, settlers’ 11wools 4d to 5d per lb.
Hides.—Butchers’ cow (average 40 lbs) 73 d, butchers’ cow (average 47 lbs) 7|d, settlers’ cow (average 301 bi) 7ijd, settlers’ cow (average 461bs) 7£d, yearlings 7£dCalfskins.—Medium (average 41bs) 9jd, medium (average 7lbs) 83d, medium (average Gibs) 10 Jd, “medium (average 51bs) IOJ-d.*
