PERSONAL.
The death *bf Mrs Hempton, widow of the late Captain Hempton, agea 88, is reported from Ne.v Plymouth. Deceased was for sixty years a resident of New Plymouth.
Mr James Lomax died on Sunday at Wanganui, aged ninety-two. Mr Lomax, who was a native of London, emigrated to New Zealand when a young man. He was married in the Auckland Islands in 1819, the official celebrant being Sir Charles Enderby, whose name was well knwon in the whaling days. Two years later Mr Lomax event to Wanganui and resided continuously in that district for the sixty-three years that elapsed. For thirty-three years he followed farming pursuits at Kaitoko and Sedgehrook, and since then lived in retirement. Mr Lomax, whose wife predeceased him some seven months ago. left five sons and four daughters—Messrs James P. Lomax, of Otaki; Charles Lomax, of Sydney; William Lomax, of Feilding; Harry P. Lomax, of Auckland; and Percy B Lomax, of Wanganui; and Mrs A. E.’ Exley, of Wellington, Mrs Cathro, of Wanganui; Mrs M. Cottle, of Stratford; and Miss Lomax, of Wanganui.
