DOMINION NEWS.

PRODUCE FREIGHTS TO BRITAIN fPEU PbV.BB ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, September 18. The New Zealand and African Steamship Co. has received advice by cable from London stating that the British Government has fixed the rate of freight on beef and mutton from South America to London at Jd per pound. It is interesting to note that the present rates from New Zealand arc a half-penny per pound on beef, and nine-sixteenths of a penny on mutton. Although the meat has to bo carried twice as far in the case of Now Zealand, even if the suggested war surtax of 25 per cent, on freights were imposed, the rates from New Zealand would still bo lower than those from South America to Britain.
