BOWLING. THE DOMINION ASSOCIATION. [Peb Press Association.] Auckland, September 20. At a further meeting of the Council of the Dominion of New Zealand Bowling Association, it was decided that in regard to the selection of the proposed team for Australia, Messrs J. A. Kilgour (Auckland), M. Barnitt (Christchurch), and C. J. Payne (Dunedin) be the selection committee. In regard to the annual tournament it was decided that play commence on January 11th, and that the programme consist of rinks, pairs, and singles matches. The following con-, ditions will be observed :—That the rinks match be played on the sectional system, winners and ties in sections to .qualify for intersectional pl a J T j that intersectioual play be on the “sudden death” principle’; that the pairs match start on Friday morning, the Christchurch system to be adopted; that the singles championship match commence on Monday, July 18, the Dunedin system to be adopted, with the exception that losers shall not play losers in the fourth round.
The secretary was instructed to write to the Australian Bowling Council, suggesting a conference between representatives of associations to be held at some time during the Australasian bowling carnival, to consider the uniformity of the laws of the game, and other matters of interest to bowlers.
HOCKEY. Dunedin, September 20. The English ladies’ hockey team met a representative Otago sid® Carishrook on Saturday afternoon, and secured victory by six goals to nil.
After the match, Mr A. W. Manning picked the New Zealand team as follows to represent New Zealand against England at Wellington on Wednesday, September 30th: —Goal, M. Arthur (Taranaki); full-backs, E. Birchley (Manawatu), and -D. Tinny i Wellington); halves, M. Malcolm (Poverty Bay), D. Rabbidge (Southland) and M. Swain (Hawke’s Bay); ,forwavds-vM'. McDonnell (Wellington), S. Kruse (Canterbury), 11. Malcolm (Poverty Bay), M. Pearce (Canterbury), R. Nielson (Wmirarnpa). Throe further players have yet to be selected. Auckland. September 20. A hockey match for the New Zealand Challenge Shield between teams representing Wellington and Auckland associations was won by Wellington, by 3 goals to 2.
football. Wellington, September 20. Wellington defeated Otago yesterday by 25 points to 11.
For the Dean Cup, Whanga and Strathmore met on Saturday, when the score resulted 3 all. Whanga thus retains the Cup.
