A young man named Albert Bertie Clements made a determined effort to commit suicide in Ch'ristehurch on Saturday morning by sneaking behind a steam roller and throwing himself under the wheels. He was seen by the driver in time, but he was badly bruised on one shoulder by the weight of. the engine. He was detained by the driver till the police came, when he was arrested and taken to the police station. ~_; ,,
