Le Matin's correspondent at Pefero-* grad reports that General Von Auffewberg's army lost 300 officers, 28,000 men, and 400 guns, and that the second army lost as prisoners 500 officers and 70,000 men. The Russian victory is considered decisive.

GERMAN SUPPORT FOR THE HARD-PUSHED AUSTRIANS.
Petrograd, September 12
The Russians on the Bisritz liver forced the whole of the Austrian army into the angle formed 5y the Vistula and the San, where a complete debacle is possible owing to bad fores. The Russian Success is greatly cue to the artillery, which is superior to the Austrians'. Most of the Russian wounds are due to the nile, in contrast to the. wounds from shell ard shrapnel in German engagements. Furious fighting is proceeding on the Austrian centre, where the Hungarian regiments,are showing great gallantry. The fighting line is now a huge zigzag. The Russians have generally gained ground toward the Austrian frontier. Hot fighting is progressing on the Austrian right.
The Russians captured Tomaschoff, after a sanguinary conflict. They also captured the fortified positions of Opole and Turobin, west of Lublin, and repulsed the Germans with heavy losses at Chorocle.
* Semi-official.—Russians have cut off the Austrian left from the troops operating between Tomaschoff and Ravarusska.
News from South Poland indicates that the chief Austrian army is fighting a desperate rearguard action, and fleeing in increasing disorder. It is believed that 300,000 Germans have been withdrawn from a position at the front, and are intended to assist the Austrians instead of in East Prussia.
The Russian patrols are in contact with the Germans at Blaski, near Kalisch.
It is officially stated that on Wednesday- the Germans arrived at Grodek to assist the Austrians.
The Russian operations against the Austrians' two wings/and rear of the western army are favourable, and the turning movement at Ravaritskew is proceeding successfully.

An official message from Berlin states that the 22nd Russian Army Corps \?as repulsed when endeavouring to cross the Ryck.

PRISONERS.
London, September 13. The Daily Chronicle's Petrograd
correspondent says that two Austrian armies have been surrounded. Sixty thousand were taken prisoners, including 500 officers of one army and 600 of the other. The surrender of both is impending.

Perograd, September 13.
- Official—The Russians gained a glorious victory over the Austrian and German armies at Krasnik and Tomaschoff. The enemy was driven across the San. Great success was achieved against the Austrians to the west \nd north-west of Lemberg. Over 200 officers and 3000 men were taken prisoners, and a number of big guus, Maxims, and stores captured. et is reported that a Hungarian battalion crossed the Roumanian frontier and laid down their arms.
