At the Auckland Supreme Court Frederick" Mclver Phillips, solicitor, of Otorohariga, who was charged with fabricating evidence with intent to deceive the Maniapobo Land Boardj was admitted to probation for twelve months.—P.A.
Mons. M, Marcel Allorgo, Merton College, Oxford, one of- the scientists who attended the recent Science Congress in Australia, was in Stratford on Thursday, and secured a number of photographs in the vicinity of the Egmont Naional Park.
At tho inquest in connection with the Mahihnpua Creek drowning fatality on Wednesday (states a P.A. telegram from Hokitika) the Coroner returned a verdict of "accidentally drowned" in respect of Waugh (aged 25), Herring (21), and Rogers (22).
Arrangements are now Avell forward for the Horticultural Society's annual spring show, which is to be held in the Town Hall on Thursday. The fact that the proceeds are to be
devoted to tho Patriotic Fund should be a guarantee of even a bigger attendance than is usally the case. The programme is in charge of tho Patriotic Fund entertainment committee and the "Egmont Club orchestra have consented to assist. The ladies' committee will gratefully accept any donation in, the way of refreshments.
