A Dauuevirke Press Association telegram to-day states: Alex. McBride, a farmer at Mixta mau, died last evening at his home as the result cl poisoning. Deceased had been depressed lately, and bad been endeavouring to dispose of bis interest in ids farm. Shortly after returning home from Tokomaru last evening, bo took poison and died soon after. An inquest will be held. ]
A Wellington Press Association telegram states :—William Amos Mullins, who was charged at the Magistrate's Court with the attempted murder of his wife some weeks ago and also with attempted suicide, was remanded for a week. Mullins and his wife have since been undergoing treatment in the hospital, where they are recovering. On Thursday in the Foresters' Hall, Mr H. Victor gave an interesting address on "Psychic-Photography," illustrated with limelight views. Among the many wonderful slides shown. were those of the late W. T. Stead and
spirit forms, also the spirt, forms of the lecturer's sisters, who came to be photographed some years alter being in spirit life. To-morrow night Mr Victor will lecture on "The Goal cf Life'"in the Foresters' Hall, at 7 p.m.
The Press Association states that the Dunedin police have notified all city and suburban hotel-keepers that all "slides" opening from the bars into passages which lead into the street must in future be permanently closed. Tlie action has been taken in consequence of the decision of the Full Court recently given in Wellington on the question of the word "liar" in the Licensing Act.
