ALLIES MAKE SATISFACTORY PROGRESS.

Paris, September 8

An official comrminique states that the enemy is retiring in the direction of Barne, between Meaux and Sezanne. The Allies captured many prisoners, including an infantry battalion and a quickfirers' company and caissons. Violent engagements occurred between Ampenoiro and Vitry-de-Fran-cois, at the southorn extremity of Argonno. The enemy did not succeed anywhere, and fell back on Vitry-do-Francois. It is officially stated that the Allies are making continuous progress from the banks of the Onrcq as far as the region of MoutmiraJ. The enemy is retreating in the direction of Marne. An official communique stated that the German divisions attacked the lino, Chateau Salins 10 Nancy, but wore repulsed to the north of the Champonoux Forest.
