I The capture of Xikolareff is strategically important as it is the junction of the railways to Lemberg and Jimac hell', and via Stryi to the Carpathians. Austro-Hungarian fugitives ' report; that the Austrians fear a rising in Bukovina. Hungarian 'sympathy with Russia is represented as increasing. It is officially stated that fighting 'was ill progress throughout Sunday along the whole Austrian battle-trout, in, the centre the Austrian army retreating. In the Ravarusska district, north-westward of Lemberg, there has been desperate fighting with large Austrian forces, the Russians attacking an Austrian stronghold near Gobodqjc on the left bank of the Vistula. The Russians took the offensive and had favourable reports to make. ALARM !N VIENNA. A FAMINE THREATENED.
FORTIFICATION BEgUN.

The Daily Mail's Milan correspondent states that Vienna is menaced with a famine. Serbs are torn to pieces in the streets, and all Serb shops are sacked. Two Russian newspaper correspondents were shot in their rooms by the police, and five foreign journalists were imprisoned. The Government has begun to fortify Vienna, and arrangements have been made to inundate the low-lying lands round the city. Refugees from Galicia flocking to Vienna makes the situation desperate. It is reported that Russia is liberating the Galicians on parole, hoping it will create, a good impression in Galicia. While tho ' Austrians, Slovaks, and Croatian a are .treated as leniently as possible, the Germans aiul Hungarians are punished with -full severity. .
