Ex perience of Hussars.

BRITISHERS ENTRAPPED BUT

REACH THE COAST.

HALF THE SQUADRON REMAINS.

(Received 8.40 a.m.) Boulogne, September 7

Lieutenant Drake, of the Eleventh Hussars, with a corporal, has arrived. Their squadron in guarding the routes at Mons entrenched themselves and fired on German cavalry. Gradually they fell back, hoping the Germans would pass through a wood where the French troops were supposed to bo posted. For some reason the manoeuvres failed and they fought a rearguard action. They dismounted at intervals and held the Germans back by rifle fire, but suffered heavily from the German’s artillery. On reaching Honcqprt, near Oambrai, only half the squadron remained. They followed a railway cutting to a crossing, where i German infantry opened fire, shooting many men and horses. Forty rode into the neighbouring street, and we>'s

again trapped at the end of two stre which ran at right angles. Barricaded Germans from the houses opened a devastating fire. The remnant reached the wood and split into parties of two, som« gradually reaching the coast.
