Pope Benedict XV.

CEREMONY OF CORONATION SOLEMN AND IMPRESSIVE WITHOUT EXCESSIVE POMP. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received 8.40 a.m.) Rome, September 7. Owing to the war, and with a view to avoiding excessive pomp, the coronation of the Pope was held in Sistine Chapel instead of in St. Peter’s. The ceremony was solemn and impressive. Benedict XV. was loudly acclaimed.

The Sistine Chapel is one of a number of chapels in the Vatican, the Pope’s residence in Rome. It is 146 ft. long and 50ft. wide. In it are renowned frescoes by Michael Angelo.
