BRITISH FEAT OF ARMS.
(Received 8.30 a.m.)
. ~ ... Paris, September 3. A great'feat of arms occurred ; at Solemes, in East Cambrai, on August 26th.. The Sixth Regiment was holding an exposed position, expecting support all day, which was not forth-! coming. The Germans crept round, and the British were in danger of being encircled. The British, with bayonets, charged through a gap of eight hundred yards, gradually closing the ring, yelling and shouting, despite the artillery which was trained on the spot? The British lost heavily, particularly a North Country Regiment. This latter regiment lost its transport column one day, and afterwards marched thirty-six and.twenty miles in two successive days upon two biscuits per man. The men then revenged themselves by capturing a German supply column.
