The first report of the new General "Manager of Railways is to be tabled in the House to-night. It will probably suggest important increases in the higher branches of the staff,as part of a radical reorganisation of the service which has not kept pace with requirements. Although the permanent way is excellent, considerable structural changes are most likely to be recommended, including important deviations and duplications, new station buildings in the more important centres, improvement in signalling, and additions to the rolling stock. The proposed expenditure will be met by a large loan spread over a period of years.—P.A.
