MOBILISATION ONLY A PRECAU-
TIONARY MEASURE.
Washington, September 2
Tho Turkish Ambassador announced that tho Turkish army was mobilised three weeks ago, but this was merely a precautionary measure. Turkey had no intention of aiding Germany. The British Embassy has been informed that German officers have gono to Turkey with' tho object of inciting Turkey to declare war.
Athens, September 2
Tho officers going to Constantinople are reported to be the Turkish officers who went to England to take over tho two battleships building for Turkey, but which Britain retained. (It was reported recently that a large number of German naval officers and seamen recently travelled through Bulgaria to Constantinople.)
Renter states that Great Britain lias asked the United States to care for her diplomatic interests in Turkey in the event of a declaration of war against the Allies.
