The captain of the Magdeburg has arrived at St. Petersburg, overcome with grief. He declared himself unworthy to wear the uniform of a German naval officer, and said he had sinned against the Fatherland. H« has been interned in a fortress;

Houtman ;:as arrived, bringing passengers from the Soon (cabled August 11). The Hontman's captain states that when en route to Batavia his vessel was boarded by the officers of the German gunboat Geier. His papers were examined, and he was then allowed to proceed.
(Advices were received on August 11 that the German mail steamer "Boon, overdue at Freemantle, was sheltering in a natural port in Java. Many Australian passengers were aboard. The Boon h s steel screw steamer of 8174 tons gross register. built in 1902. She has a speed of 14?- knots. The Roon left Bremen oa July 1, and Suez on July 20, for Australian ports.)
