A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.
A meeting of the executive committee of the A. and P. Association was held last night, when there were present: Messrs E. Jackson (president, in the chair), R. Dingle, W. P. Kirkwood, J. Shotter, E. Kelleher, D. J. Malone, F. E. Dobson, W. M. Bayly, J. D. Healy.
The resignations of Messrs H. J. Valintino and P. C. Clemow were accepted with regret.
An application for permission to hold an art union in connection with the show was refused.
Messrs Kirkwood, Malone, and Dobson were appointed to make arrangements for the sale of privileges. Mr A. Stewart was re-appointed to the post of marshal and Mr H. Cameron was appointed assistant marshal.
The executive is to hold a meeting on the showgrounds at 3 o’clock on Friday afternoon. Messrs Jackson, Healy, and Dobson were appointed to make arrangements for music on the second day of the show.
It was decided that it would not be possible this year to put any permanent roofing on the pig pens, but an endeavour will be made to get as many tarpaulins as possible for use as temporary roofing. Mr N. B. Fletcher notified that he would probably not be in Stratford at the time of the show and therefore could not take the post of chairman of the railway receiving committee, and the appointment was left in the hands of Messrs Jackson and Dobson. Mr H. Williams, caretaker of the Stratford Mountain House, offered two medals for a class for half a dozen photographs in the National Park, the photographers to be amateurs. —The off ere was accepted, and a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Williams, members agreeing that the class would be an excellent one.
The president reported that on Thursday week the last representative football match of the season would be played on the showground. At present the oval was very rough. He thought something should be done to it to put it in fair condition for the match. —After a short discussion it was decided that the oval be chain harrowed and then rolled".
The Agricultural Department wrote in reference to co-operative experiments, the scheme being that the Department supplies seeds and manure and the farmer sows and attends to the crop.—lt was decided to ask Mr Bayliss to meet the general committee at an early date and to go fully into details. It was decided, also, that all farmers should be admitted to the meeting at which Mr Bayliss attends.
The president, said the train had been stopped at the Showgrounds for two football matches, and since then several people had asked that the north trains should be stopped for the Show. He thought that steps should be taken to arrange for this.—Mi Kirkwood said there would be a great number of children on the train and the Railway Department would take no responsibility in the matter. The Association would have to take all the responsibility and personally he would vote against the suggestion—he was not prepared to take the great responsibility.—Mr Jackson moved that the department be approached for the necessary permission. Mr Dobson seconded. He thought it was a forward move.—Mr Malone suggested that the line south of Flint Road should be inspected so that the Association could make suggestions as to what rough earthwork might be done to make the place better.—The motion was carried.
