The Governor-General, speaking at a patriotic performance, said our losses in the war would be enormous, but the cause was worthy of the sa<orifice. An arrogant, domineering, brutal military tyranny had thrown off the mask, and now sought to tyrannise the civilised world. The war would go on till that power for evil was broken never to rise again. ADVICE TO TROOPS. (Received 10.35 a.m.) Melbourne, August 29. Mr Millen has cabled to Lord Kitchener for a copy of his address to the troops departing to the Continent. He proposed to follow the same procedure upon the departure of the Australian expeditionary force. WEST AUSTRALIA. (Received 9.45 a.m.) Fremantle, August 29. The Gorman cargo steamer Thuringen arrived, and was seized.

Mr Holman states that the whole question of coping with the unemploy-j
ment problem is now well in hand, and arrangements have been completed by the Works Department whereby the great bulk of the unemployed will be found partial employment by the end of next week.
