EGMONT CLUB CONCERT.

A very successful social was held

last night in the Egmont Club rooma

in aid of the Patriotic Fund. The first part of the evening was taken up with a euchre tournament, the prize winners donating the prizes for a gift auction. The hammer was wielded by Mr R. Cottier in his usual effective manner, and he infused much life and Ihumour into the proceedings. The result was that each item met with spirited bidding, and as a result of the evening's proceedings the sum of £22 was collected towards the equipment! of a horse which the Club has under-1

The presence of Mr Henry Saint George, examiner foi" tlie Board of Trinjty College of Music, London, and an artiste of repute, lent added'interest to the concert part of tjhe evening's entertainment. tkin strings, seven of which are used for 1 r playihg on and seven sympathetic istrings. The artist's- performance land the tone produced from this inIstrument were a revelation to all present. Mrs E. C, Robinson gave a fine rendition of "The Land of Hope and Glory," a song which showed off the wonderful range and' power of her voice. As an encore she sang "June Rain" very effectively, and by special request "A Summer Night." Mr Ranford gave as a recitation "Brother Watkins" and in response to a vociferous encore gave "The Story of a Tin Tack." Miss Fieldes gave a sweet rendition of "She is Far From The Land," and as an encore "An Emblem." Mr Saint George was again heard on the viola d'Amore, giving as his numbers La Cloche by Simon Ives, published .1661, and an an encore a prelude by an unknown composer, published about the year 1600. By special request Mr Saint George gave a pianoforte solo, playing a piece of his own Allegro—in a masterly fashion. In addition, the orchestra rendered several selections very acceptably. The evening was voted a huge success. A special word of praise is due to the ladies' committee who worked hard in the interests of the entertainment and provided supper. The evening was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem following on the reading. out of the latest war news (per "Stratford Evening Post" extra) by the President of the Club.
