CAMP CORRESPONDENCE.

The present indefinite way in which correspondence is addressed to volunteers at concentration camps makes it in some instances impossible to deliver. The Postmaster-General requests that any person writing to camps will include as part of the address the company and regiment to which addressees belong.

NEW PLYMOUTH FUND.

£I2OO SENT FORWARD.

New Plymouth, August 21

New Plymouth’s first contribution to the Patriotic Fund was remitted to the Premier to-day, including £SOO from the Mayor’s fund and £750 from the Taranaki Herald’s fund. Over £2OOO has been subscribed, but the committee want the government’s assurance that the State will attend to the relief of distress arising out of the war before parting with all its funds.

NO RISE IN MEAT.

NOT JUSTIFIED AT PRESENT.

The leading master butchers here state that there is no immediate necessity for an increase in the price of meat. The conditions will certainly affect trade, but not to such an extent as to warrant a call upon the public.

Palmerston N., August 95.

The parade state to-day showed the following men in camp at Awapuni: Infantry, 31 officers and 1165 men; mounted rifles, 24 and 640; artillery, 4 and 203; ammunition column, 5 and 230; field troop engineers, 3 amd 80; divisional signal, 4 and 116; mounted signal troop, 1 and 26; field ambulance, 2 end 45; army service corps, 1 and 80; reservists, and 71; total, 75 offsets and 2663 men. ■ Mr J. B. Richards, secretary ef the executive of the Stratford Patriotic Fund informed us this morning that the amount contributed from all sources How exceeds £ISOO.

Madame Bernard this morning handed to the Mayor the sura of £5 3s 4d, the takings at the matinee held on Saturday at His Majesty’s Theatre in aid of the War Fund. A further sum is expected to he handed oVer when all tickets are accounted for. “
