At the Wellington Supreme Court Q to-day f Horace Cramond, who had g pleaded guilty,to the embezzlement of £I4OO from Thomas Cook and Sons, f. was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labor. Mr Jus- *j tice Hosking said he recognised from \ what had been placed before him that j prisoner' had had a hard struggle. In t his statement Cramond had emphasis- S ed his bad treatment and claimed that ' he had been underpaid, but his Honor ' pointed out that the Court could not i countenance the action of an employee who. took his employer's money in such circumstances by way of compensation.—P.A. At the Waverley Court last week a man named H. Muldrock was fined •£25,. and costs, for failing to dip his sheep within the statutory period, and £lQ,and costs for giving the stock inspector a false return in connection with, the sheep alleged to, have been dipped. The magistrate pointed . out that sheep men throughout the country should realise the seriousness of making false declarations in the matter,! it : .being, so necessary that accurate returns should be given Of stock free from, disease, The, legislature liad provided a maximum penalty of £IOO. Mr Scotland's new 60 horse-power Caudron passenger biplane was expected tQ arrive at Auckland last Thursday. Mr Scotland is in Wellington waiting the arrival of the machine, 'which will;be at once transferred to LytteHon and opened out there. Mr Scotland offered his machine and himself to the Defence Department for service in the Dominion if needed. The new machine will be put together and tested in a 20-acro 'paddock near Christchurch. It is probable that the right to the first passenger ascent in each town will be auctioned. The new machine is similar to the one which held.the record for endurance, 161 hours, until the other day, when an aviator stayed up for 20 hours.
