N.Z. FARMERS’ UNION.
The ordinary meeting of the Taranaki Executive was held at Hawcra on Friday, when there were present: Messrs A. Hunter (president), E. Maxwell, A. E. Washer, R. Lambie, J. S. Barrow, H. H. Buxton, R. Dunn, F. Mills, J. Thomson, J. Swindlehurst and J, Davidson. WAR FUND. r On the motion of Mr Maxwell, seconded by Mr Washer, the following resolution was carried:—“That the Taranaki Farmers’ Union Executive strongly urge all sections of the community to guard against misdirected benevolence, and to concentrate all their means in the direction of the establishment and maintenance of a fund of, later, when need arises. (1) relieving genuine, distress of relatives of those who have gone to the front j (2) and providing for or assisting those who may return unfitted for making their own living,” DOMINION CONFERENCE. Messrs ©unn and Maxwell, delegates to the Dominion Conference, reported on the work of the conference. They stated that the. work had been of a most satisfactory kind. The Taranaki remits had been very favourably received. The remits dealing with Land Tax, speying dairy cows, stallion bill, and cow-testing, which were from Taranaki, had all been passed. In referring to the large order paper Mr Maxwell said that in some respects it was unsatisfactory. When remits of a similar character were sent from different executives, it was the custom to lump them into one, and they found that the remit evolved was not satisfactory to anyone. He bought that an intermediary conference should be held—one in the South Island and one in the North Island—prior to the Dominion Conference. These conferences would deal with matters that did not necessarily need to be dealt with by the Dominion Conference and would result in a great saving of time at the Dominion Conference. The secretary was instructed to write to the branhes for their opinion on the suggestion for an intermediary conference. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Messrs Dunn and Maxwell for their work at the conference.
