The war upon German trade is beiug widely taken up by British maunfacturers. Everything depends upon the assistance the banks are giving them. Canadian manufacturers are urging Canadians to buy Canadian and British goods ordy. The embargo placed by the United States Government upon Joans to belligerents is held to include Canada, as a British colony. , A Glasgow tradesman has posted iin Ids window a notice stating: “Business is being carried on as usual during alterations to the map.” The lirst 150 Freuck-Canadian reservists have arrived. THE ARMS OF THE ALLIES. London, August 21. The King, in a message to M. Poincare, on the occasion of the latter’s birthday, expressed the firm conviction that success would attend the arms of the Allies.
