The Allied Armies

ON THE SITE OF A GREAT BATTLEFIELD.

HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF.

(Received 8.10 a.m.) Brussels, August 20

The allies are now in a vast semicircle from Diest, curving by Quatre Bras and Wavre to Givet. The French on Tuesday were ocupying both sides of the Meuse from Godinne, between Namur and Diuant, to the French frontier. There are I constant skirmishes with German cavalry about Godinne.

The Belgians during Tuesday gradually drew in the long line of troop: and stiffened it, and they are now holding a strongly-entrenched second line covering the approaches to Louvain, Brussels, and Antwerp.

The chosen ground is a splendid battlefield, with broken country veiling the army's strength from the enemy. <

It is officially pointed out to the public of Brussels that they must expect to see changes in the positions of the army along such a long line. The modifications in tha original position give no ground for anxiety. GERMAN PRINCES NOW AT LIECE. (Received 8.30 a.m.) Rotterdam, August 20. Telegrams from Liege show that Princes Eitel and August are now at Liege.
