Mr,R. R. Martin, who was injured in the collision in which Colonel Hayhurst was killed at Timaru, is. doing s well, and is expected to recover.
At the meeting of the University Council at Dunedin yesterday afternoon, Dr. Gowland was appointed Professor of Anatomy at the University, in place of the late Dr. Scott.
The death is reported from Palmerston of Mr David Rowlands, one of the oldest settlers .in the Manawatu, aged .70. He. arrived in 1864. Mr Rowlands was a successful Romney breeder and a prominent Mason.
Mr David Howie, a well-known settlor at Pohangina, a member of the Hospital Board, Manawatu A. and P. Association, Pohangina County Council, and Farmers’ Union, died yesterday.
The death is announced from Oamarn of the Hon. T. Y. Duncan, M.L.C., at the age of 78 years. The Hon. Mr Duncan was formerly Minister for Lands in Mr Seddon’s Cabinet.
The death occurred at St. Albans, Christchurch, yesterday, of a very old resident, in the person of Mrs J. Hill. The deceased lady, who was 76 years of age, had been in delicate health for some time. She is survived by her husband and a family of four sons and six daughters, Messrs F. J. and H. E. Hill, wellknown New Plymouth riflemen, being two of the sons.
