The Justices have ordered the closing of the public-houses in the chief towns in Northumberland and Durham at nine o’clock. There is no resentment among the working classes, and the miners are strongly supporting the Government’s action, though 50,000 colliers are idle in Northumberland alone. Many are assisting tiie farmer's to gather in the harvest. Armstrong, their colleague is organising lessons in simple agriculture. Masters and men have closed the existing controversies. The masters are not pressing for a reduction of wages which the Conciliation Board had given them, and the miners are submitting to the three-shift system.

It is difficult to determine the value of aeroplane and water operations of the Belgian airmen in spoiling scouting by Uhlans, but guns brought many to the ground. The airmen had weird apd uncanny experiences. Air waves created by gun concussions rock the aircraft like cockleshells, causing them to dive, rush upwards, stop, shiver, and other nerve-rack-ing acrobatics. '■ ,
