THE PANAMA CANAL.
FROM SEA TO SEA. ,‘Bi El/ROTRIO TELEGRAPH— CoPYRTIUTT [Unitee Press Association.] New York, August 15. The' Panama Canal was informally opened when the United States War Department’s ship Ancon made the trip through the canal, from Atlantic to Pacific, taking eleven hours for the passage. Colonel Goethals, builder of the Canal, stood on the bridge as the vessel left, with Dr. Belisario Porras, President of Panama, beside him. Vessels drawing thirty feet and less may now pass through the canal.
