French Successes.
MANY BAVARIANS KILLED AND WOUNDED. FRENCH AIRMEN'S EXPLOIT. (Received 8.15 a.m.) Paris, August 16. A morning engagement took place in the region of Blamont Chirey, where the Bavarians had gathered their forces. The, French had occupied the village of Blamont and took The neighboring heights at the bayonet's point. Many Bavarians were killed and wounded. The French continue to advance from the heights of the Vosges, the Germans retiring on Alsace. The French have retaken Thaun, and made a prisoner of Deimling (commander of the fifteenth r.rmy corps). • Two French airmen sortied from Verdun over the Zeppelin ha%ars at Metz, where they dropped l>oml>s. Tt is believed much damage was doue.
