The Labour Department wishes to remove the impression that Arbitration Court awards have been suspended in consequence of the pnssing of the Regulation of Trade and Gomemrce Act. All awards are still in force. Tlie Act provides that the Governor may, on account of the war, by Order-in-Council, suspend or modify any provision-! of any award he deems necessary in the public interest. No such suspension lias yet been made, concludes the Press Association telegram from Wellington. Two a.m. and a rising moon saw tired but happy Cardiffitos (and other ites) wending their ways home from the jolliest dance held in their village for many a long day (states a correspondent). The proceeds of the dance were originally intended to swell the school committee's bank balance, but it was thought that,.money collected at a public function should not, during the present crisis, bo devoted to parochial uses, but be devoted to the public good, so the function was turned into fl liaka or war dance. Owing largely to the vovy generous donations of Mi' A. J. Smith and Mr Don. Cameron and the Prebble boys who supplied the music, gratuitously, the sum of £lO 6s 6d was the result of the effort, out of which probably 10s will have to bo taken for expenses. Anyway, everyone so enjoyed themselves that arrangements were made before breaking lip f or another dance to be held next Friday night for the same purpose.
