WELL-KNOWN MAN AND H3S WIFE INSULTED BY GERMANS. (Received 8.55 a.m.) Loudon, August 9. 1 Mr Archer Huntington, president of the American Geographical Society, and his wife, a well-known authoress, were arrested at Nuremberg as spies. Mr Huntington was stripped naked and his -wife was insulted. ARREST OF BRITISH SUBJECTS GERMANY. . ■ (Received 8.50 a.m.) Berlin,- August 7. When the- mob besieged the British Embassy* for several hours- and smashed the windows, British subjects were rounded up by the police. . Many Bntisih subjects were arrested as spies and forty are immured in the fortress of Spandau. Ihe American Ambassador is endeavor,-t, to secure the release of British subjects, asking that they be required to report themselves twice weekly. “BRITAIN'S TREACHERY.” Amsterdam, August 9. A number of British correspondents Lord Goschen from Berlin when England declared war. Howls .of execration from the, throng on Unter-Den-Linten greeted w'hat was termed Britain’s treachery. Several correspondents of English papeis weio arrested as spies. The American Ambassador secured the release of Lord Goschen and succeeded in getting a number of British subjects away. Many Australians are still in Germany, The mob attacked and broke the British Legation windows at Dresden. The American Ambassador in Berlin appeals for British money to help British subjects under his care. ARREST OF A NEPHEW OF THE KAISER. GERMAN LOSSES IN ALSACE NUMBER 30,000. (Received 9.55 a.m.) Brussels, August 9. There are reports that among the wounded’prisoners at Liege is the nephew of the Kaiser, who is commanding the German cavalry. Other reports arc that the German casualties in Alsace were thirty thousand.
