REPORTED BRITJSH CAPTURE. New York, August G. British cruisers are reported to have captured the German steamer Willhad, off the Newfoundland coast, REPORT OF NAVAL ENGAGEMENT OFF MAINE. Washington, August 6. President Wilson lias offered to act as mediator between all the nations at war. Heavy firing was heard off the Maine coast. It is believed that a naval engagement was taking place, but no details are -known. The Olympic and the Kaiser Wilhelm U. have arrived at New York. The Lorraine is making a dash foi France with a thousand reservists aboard.
