Belgians as Fighters
ALL THE GERMAN ATTACKS REPULSED. Brussels, August 5. It is officially reported that fierce fighting occurred in the environs of Liege, on the Belgian frontier, early this morning. Ail the German attacks were repulsed, and no German who passed the forts survived. One soldier flung himself upon the German ranks, killed four, and "then returned to his comrades. The general situation in Belgium is excellent. It is reported that Fort Liers routed two regiments of cavalry which crossed the Meuse, and prevented the infantry crossing. A Gazette states that the seventh and tenth German army corps have reached Harve (in Belgian territory). Prepinster and Remouchanips, and fired on certain forts on the Meuse. EIGHT HUNDRED GERMANS WOUNDED. Brussels, August 6. The War Office states that the German losses were enormous, and the heroism of the Belgians Superb. Eight hundred wounded Germans are corning to Brussels. The Germans built a bridge, but the Vise forts destroyed it. Later the German cavalry forded the r iver above Vise. Renter’s Brussels correspondent says the Germans were completely repulsed at Frerm.
