In the House of Commons Mr Lloyd George said arrangements for insuring hulls had been made with existing .associations, of which the three principal represent a hundred million pounds. The Government was reinsuring eighty per cent, of hulls, the Government to have the right to vary the premiums from time to time. There were no associations dealing specially with cargo risks. The Government proposes a Slate Insurance Office to do the work, and one has already been opened in London, The scheme would go far to allay panic. The Government is appointing an expert committee consisting of the general managers of leading lines to bunlrol the railways. Though military and naval requirements are the first consideration there will be every effort to reduce inconvenience to the public. The Bank rate is six per cent.
