Mr R. D. Lowers returned from a business trip to Wellington by last night’s mail. > Mr Charles H. Knight, representing George Willoughly, Ltd., was in Stratford to-day making arrangements for the presentation of “The Rosary” at the Town Hall on Wednesday next. Mr Charles Nettleton, who was a resident of Stratford for over twenty years, died yesterday in a private hospital at Wanganui. A few years ago Mr Nettleton moved to Tanraiiga, but more recently went to the Marton district, where he,had only been settled a few weeks prior to his death. Miss Elsie Bollinger, M.A., recently on the Stratford High School secondary staff, and Miss F. Smith recently mistress of the Kaimiro school, have been on a visit to the Continent of Europe for some weeks. They last wrote from Germany, and their parents hi New Plymouth are anxiously awaiting tidings from thorn states the News), fearing they may have been detained in Germany, The Rev. Charles Monroe Sheldon, partoji’ of Central Church, Topeka, U.S.A.. who i& on his way to New Zealand as a Congregational Church missioner, has had a distinguished career as a preacher and author, Mr Sheldon was horn at Wellsville, New York, in J8C7... He was educated at th e Phillips Academy, the Brown University’, and the. Andover Theological Seminary, and ordained « Congregational minister in 1888, and pastor at Wa-tarbury in 1389. Tir the same year he was made pastor of the Topeka Church, a position he has held ever since. Mr Sheldon is a prolific writer, and in the last 24 years has brought out 21 books, one of which, “In TJ is Steps,” aroused world-wide interest. Other publications include “Richard Bruce” this first hook), “Lend me a Hand,” “The Miracle of Markham.” “For Christ and the Church,” “Edward Blake,” “The Reformer,” and “The Good Fight. ”i In 1900 Mr Sheldon edited the “Topeka Capital” for one week as a distinctive Christian daily. He is also the editor of “One Hundred and One Poems oi the Day,” published in 1896.
