During -Tulyg.'Wl estates of deeoased persons were certified lor stamp duty. The largest were those of .lamps Haslett, Otago, £128.389; Margaret Reilly Rehinker, Auckland, £-18,964. A cablegram from Fremantle states eighty scientists who will attend the Science Congress arrived by the Orvieto. A number of delayed censored mes' sages from various parts of the sphere of warlike operations, came to hand to-day, and are duly published. The censorship appears to be fairly rigid. Mr T. G. Grubb's window in Broadway is very appropriately decorated at present, the whole space being devoted to a representation of mimic military operations. Tin soldiers of all descriptions are in evidence in addition to aeroplanes and warships. The Appeal Court at Wellington, in giving judgment in the case Broad v. the King, stated: "In our opinion the by-law that requires every person who drives a vehicle or an animal over a level crossing to proceed at a walking pace is void."—(P.A.) 'ft ; Yesterday the residents of Stratfor.d were kept aware of the movements in the European struggle, two "extras" being issued by the "Post" during the evening. A little before five o'clock the reported declaration of war be-, tw'een Britain and Germany was ciiv culated round the town. Mr Sid Bernard brought his cornet down to the Post Office and played "God Save the King," "Rule Britannia," and "The Marseillaise," a good crowd gathering. When the later news regarding BritisQ mobilisation was read out at His Majesty's Theatre by the manager, Mr Will Diamond, the audience rose and enthusiastically sang "God Save the King."
