He gave no order to lire nor did lie hear the whistle. Captain Hugh Cohden gave evidence that the conflict started when tlnsoldiers rescued a soldier named Evans, whom a civilian ill-treated. He saw Heigh touch the soldiers as though giving directions. He took a step towards the crowd and held up Ids hands. The soldiers then fired. Haigli and witness shouted “Stop!” The Corporation’s counsel caused a sensation when he asked the coroner to warn Cohden, as counsel had four witnesses to testify that they saw Cohden lire the shot that killed Duffy.
