Froitzheim was a surprise. All through the first set he out-volleyed Brookes for a lead of 5—2. In one game he repeatedly used the side-lines for passes, and Brookes out-volleying, won the sot. Brookes was master at all times in the second and third sets, solving the German's game, and completely outplaying him.
