The Second Count.

CARNSVAL QUEEN CONTEST MRS SMITH STILL LEADS. The result of the voting for the second week of the Carnival Queen contest was made known this morning. Mrs Smith and Miss Cramer tied for the highest number of votes recorded for the week and they divide the hundred free votes. Mrs Smith and Miss Hart still hold the first two places, as they did at the end of the first week’s voting. Miss Cramer is now in third position, having worked up from fifth. Miss McCullough replaces Miss Hignett in fourth place, Misses Iliguett and Meredith holding the fifth and sixth places. The following table shows the position of candidates at th» two counts:—

Those who attend the social and dance in the Foresters’ Hall on Monday evening next to further the candidature of the Friendly Societies’ candidate, Miss Alice Cramer (Red, Whit© and Blue), are promised an enjoyable evening in song, dance, cards and music. Those who attended this social and dance last Monday were loud in their praises of the time spent. Tho committee are determined to go one better this time, and have arranged a first-class programme, when a number of leading vocalists will take part. The floor is receiving special attention, and the music for the dance will be in the hands of Mrs Bianchi. A first-claSs supper will be provided. A euchre party will be held in the Foresters’ Hall on Tuesday evening to further the interests of the Friendly Societies’ candidate (Miss Alice Cramer). Good prizes for both ladies and gents will be given, and light refreshments will be provided. Yesterday afternoon at Otago Chambers a well-attended meeting of the ladies supporting Miss Hart’s candidature made preliminary arrangements to hold a jumble sale. All ladies willing to help are invited to attend next Friday afternoon at the same meeting place. It was also decided to hold next week a topsy-turvy dance, particulars of which appear shortly. This being somewhat of a should draw a large attendance. Owing to the Stratford. Band giving a performance in town to-night, , none of its members can make the trip to Eltliam. Consequently the Royal Blue and White Minstrel troupe has decided not to visit Eltham this evening, as they wish to make the trip in full strength. . Th® visit will probably eventuate next Saturday evening.
