POLITICAL

By means of an urgent nnestion to the Attorney-General on Wednesday, Mr Wilkinson (Egmont) voiced his strong objection to a card circulated by the Bible-in-Schools League, inviting electors to sign the following declaration:—“l now declare that in the event of the Referendum Bill asked for by the League not being granted by Parliament, I shall place the Bible in schools question before any political issue.” The member for Egmont asked if the Government would look into the matter in order to put a stop to what he considered a very undesirable | practice of gritting people to pledge them selves before the election came around. The Hon. A. L. Herdman replied by inviting Mr Wilkinson to put his question on the Order Paper as he did not wish to give a verbal answer off-hand. “Is it a breach of privilege F” asked the Hon. McKenzie. “Oh, no,” replied the Attorney-General.
