CARNIVAL QUEEN CONTEST
The Sports Committee have arranged two monster socials in aid of their candidate. Miss M, Hignett (Red and Black) to take place on August 13th and September 10th, the dates of the Ranfurly Shield football matches to be played at Stratford. On each occasion the visitors and the Taranaki team will he the guests of the committee under the patronage of the Taranaki Rugby Union. Despite the heavy downpour yesterday, a goodly number of Stratfordites made the journey to Tariki for the social and dance is aid of Mrs Smith’s candidature. Four motor cars and a drag were requisitioned to carry the party, which included a contingent of the Stratford Band. The Tariki Hall boasts of a very fine dancing floor, and dancers thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The music was all that could he desired, the accompanists being Mrs Bianchi (piano), and Mr Kelly (cornet). A strong company of vocalists added to the enjoyment, songs being given by Misses L. Sullivan, Savage (2). and Miscall, .and Messrs Dunlop, Davies (2). and Gorton. It lias been decided by the Royal Blue and Whites to make the dance in the Fire Station a permanent weekly fixture on Tuesday evenings. The Minstrel Troupe (Royal Blue and "White) which performed in Stratford a fortnight ago, purposes visiting Eltham to-morrow evening with a firstclass programme and the very latest in comicalities.
