SERIOUS ALTERCATION AT THE BACK OF THE PUB. [Pea Pekhs Association.] Whangarei, July 29. As the result of an altercation in tho back-yard of Falconer’s Commercial Hotel last night between the barman (Geo Gradwell) and a young native named Rako Akarana, the former was knocked down. He struck, his head on a stone and sustained a fracture of the base of the skull. • His condition is serious, and his depositions were taken by tho police who have not yet found Akarana.
