CARNIVAL QUEEN CONTEST

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.

-The Mayor (Mr W. P. Kirk woo. 1) presided at a meeting of the executive last night.

It was resolved to alter the hour of closing the weekly poll from 9 a.m. on Fridays until 5.30 p.m., the result to be made known at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. ~ .

Mr P. Skoglund was unanimously appointed scrutineer to act for all tha committees until such time as the executive deem fit to, appoint others. It was decided to hold a concert and social in the Town Hall on a date to be fixed later.

An enlarged photograph of each candidate will be presented to their respective committees. The executive committee will meet every Tuesday evening at 7.30 in Mr A. D. Stanley’s office.

The United Friendly Societies held another of their euchre parties in the Foresters’ Hall last night to further the interests of their candidate (Mist Alice Cramer (Red, White and Blue). The lady’s prize was won by Mrs Trask after a play-off with Mrs Kivell. The gents’ prize was won by Mr J. Sharrock and the lady’s booby by Mrs Sharrock. The twin brothers, Wind anJ Norman Kivell, played off for the booby, the latter being tile winner. Lighc refreshments were provided, and altogether a very pleasant evening was spent.

A jumble 1 ’ sale in support of Miss. Hart’s candidature will be held at an early date. Those desirous of contributing gifts are requested to communicate with Mr W. S. Cato. A well attended and very enjoyable dance and card party was held in the Fire Brigade Station last evening by the supporters of Mrs G. Smith (Royal Blue and White). Good music, good fellowship, and a splendid dancing surface made a happy combination. Several songs and recitations added to the enjoyment of the audiende. The accompanist* were Mrs Bianchi and Mr Kelly. The programme at Tariki to-morrow evening will contain musical and instrumental items by some of the best of Stratford artists. A brake will leave the post office for Tariki to-morrow night at 6.45 p.m. to convey patrons to the Blue-and-White Candidate’s concert.
