NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY AUCTION REPORT.

On Friday, 17th inst., at my Waiwakaiho yards. I had a full yarding •of all classes of cattle with a good attendance. Bidding throughout was keen. The demand for young cattle at the finish of the sale was quite unsatisfied. Three small dairy herds wej-e offered, and a big list of springing heifers and cows, these meeting with excellent competition, 153 head of these being cleared at the hammer before the store cattle sale commenced. Mr Allan Soffe's cows sold at from £6 5s to £9 os, empty cows £4 15s, small 2 year in calf heifers £3 17s 6d to £-J 9s. Mr C. Southcomb's cows were noi a good line, the best selling at from £7 to £9. Others with every appearance of being empty, from £3 3s to £5. The cows sold in A. Klonner's estate were all second calvers, nice Colored Jerseys, but unfortunately were low in condition and without- any definite information about calving dates, selling at from £5 to £9 ss, empty looking

On the same day at Ngaere, for Mr J. S, Phillips' clearing sale, there was a good attendance.and bidding for all lines offered. The dairy herd was a very line line, but contained a good number, of late calvers and aged cows, and talcing this fact into consideration the average obtained, £B, must be considered very satisfactory. At Stratford yards on Tuesday, 121st inst., for my fortnightly cattle sale, I had a good entry of cattle. Best competition obtained for well grown yearling heifers, of which class I had a good entry, mostly farmer's lines off turnips and looking in great fettle, and these good cattle were eagerly sought after. Store cows met with a ready sale. On account of other vendors dairy cows made from £5 5s to £lO, springing heifers £5 to £0 15s.

On the same day at Itowan, for Mr A. J. Dempsey's sale, I had a good attendance. The dairy herd was a very 'fair average line, all soiling at from £G Jss to £lO 10s, and averaging just on £8 for the line. Oil Wednesday, 22nd inst., at Toko, for Mr J. S. McDonald's clearing sale, there was a very fair attendance. The dairy cows were a very good line, with a few very backward, but made a nice average of £9 9s. On the same day at my Stony River yards I had a good entry and attendance, practically everything being cleared at the hammer. Good springers were in much better demand than at recent sales, and in this class I would ask vendors, for the rest of the* dairy season, to refrain from bringing their heifers to the saleyards until tho.v are showing close up to calving. No

.'< yoar heifers were offered, lint some very n'wti quality 2 year, olds were disposed of, the best realising from £<i 'l2s (m! to £7 lo.s, others from £5 10a i to CO ss, smaller heifers £4 to £1 15s, yearling heifers from £1 19s to £2 7s, i smaller £1 9s 6d to £1 12s, weaner to 'yearling steers £1 19s 6d to £2 17s, empty 20 months heifers £3 s<j o<l to £■'! 13s, yearling Shorthorn bulls £2 12s fid to £1 ss, stove cows £2 15s to i'A 9s, good conditioned cows £o 5s to £0 7s, hoggets 14s 6eL daily sow's £b*

5s to £8 10s, guaranteed cows, aged, £3 17s 6d to £5 ss.

On Thursday, at Uronui yards, I conducted Mr W. J. Bowman's clearing sale. There was a very good attendance of buyers from all over the district, but the cows were disappointing, there being an exceptionally big number of very old cows. Any young cows well forward sold very well, making from £lO to £lB 10s, others, not too much age, from £6 to £9 ss, old cows £2 12s to £4 10s.
