Snow was falling steadily as "The. Post" went to press to-day, after a morning which was bitterly cold and remarkable for thunder and lightning.
A Sydney calegram gives the following soratchings:—Pariform for the Derby, Mere for the Australian Hurdles, and Whakawarewa for the Steeplea.
The final Senior and Junior championship for the Rugby game will be played on the Showgrounds, Stratford, on Thursday next. A large crowd is anticipated. The Seniors to meet are Clifton and Waimate, and the Juniors, Clifton and Kaponga.
Advice has been received (states a Wellington Press Association telegram) that Sir James Mills has been appointed director of the London Board of. the Bank of New Zealand in succession to the late Mr 11. H. Glyn.
An Auckland Press Association telegram to-day says: As tho result of the Appeal Court decision, the police intend to take . immediate action against hotel licensees who continue to employ unregistered barmaids. It is estimated that there are between thirty, and forty unregistered barmaids employed in private bars in twenty Auckland hotels. A -meeting of the Auckland Licensed Victuallers' Association passed a resolution unanimously Urging the Licensed Victuallers' Association of New Zealand to seek a decision of the Privy Council, as the importance of tho issue involved warrants such as stand being taken to establish the definite right Or wrong of tho Appeal Court's judgment. •
