A REMIT WITHDRAWN.
FARMERS AND DEFENCE.
[Pee Peebs Association.] Wellington, July 23.
General Godley attended the Farmers’ Union Conference, when the following remit was discussed; “That the Defence Department be urged to consider the establishment of permanent camps where men could attend at.any period of the year.” General Godley stated that if a man could go and drill when he liked it would do away with the benefits to be derived. It was imperative that the men and the officers should get accustomed to one another. This could only be brought about by training camps being established at one and the same time. It was not proposed to hold large camps during the coming year. Farmers in future tfnuld not have to pay £1 for forage and rations, these being supplied by the Government.
After a long discussion, the remit was withdrawn.
