CARNIVAL QUEEN CONTEST.

THE BAND’S PfSIT’ON.

[To The Editor Stratford Post.]

j Sir, -Your sub-leader of Friday, j 17th, draws attention to the tact that the .Municipal Band has not given • the public any information as to the '■ amount it is striving for, and the pur- ■ poses the proceeds are to he devoted to. I must thank you on behalf of I the Band Committee for this publicity, but it was the intention of the Committee to place their position before lie public and enlist their support for a definite sum. Before the Band had finally arranged the complete programme, it was announced through your columns that the Beautifying Society intended to hold a Carnival Queen Contest. Consequently the two bodies amalgamated, and the disadvantages under which the Band has for some years been laboring were not stated in your columns as intended. However, it is not too late yet, mid 1 will convoy the aims of tbo Band to the public, with the earnest wish that our striving will not be in vain. The Band is on a good, sound footing, and members have done their best for the public, but are without uniforms and equipped with a third rate set of instruments of various makers which are only fit far the scrap-heap. In playing at public places and engagements, the members have to appear in pis in clothes, which robs the Band of all dignity and casts a reflection on the town. The instruments the 'mramittee have in view will bo the latest procurable, and will cost about £'•>so; uniforms from £l2O to £l5O, so von will understand that the Queen! of, the Carnival Contest, now going along splendidly, will have to he a thorough success to place the Municipal Band in the position it should hold with a town like Stratford and its population of over 3000. I hope, sir. that the public will 4 continue to take the live interest in the Carnival ' ’ompetition that has been evinced from its inception, and can assure them that they will get full value for their energies' and money from the Band. Again thanking you for your g»ntl< reminder, —I am, etc.. GOODWIN FORD. Hon Sec. Stratford Municipal Band. Sr rat turd, July 21, 1914. '
